Let Me Introduce Myself
Let’s get to know each other! Here are 10 fun facts about me:
ONE…I was born in the Netherlands – and lived there until I was five (I used to speak Dutch as a kid but forgot it). I haven’t been back since, but we hope to in the next few years.
TWO…My mom is from a Swedish-speaking part of Finland, so all my family on her side live in Sweden and Finland. Because of that, I visit Scandinavia about every other year. It feels like home! We also grew up speaking Swedish, and I’m a dual citizen (Finland and USA). This is where all of my Scandinavian home decor influence comes from.
THREE…My parents are staff with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) here in Colorado Springs and have both been with YWAM since they were 18. Two of my (three) siblings are also missionaries with YWAM. Once you’ve said YES to missions, it’s hard to do anything else! So, my family is spread out all over the globe; thus, traveling has always been and always will be a big part of my life. I’ve been to 11 countries and counting!!
FOUR…I work my dream job (Photographer and Social Media Coordinator) at an incredible nonprofit.
FIVE…If I wasn’t a photographer, I always say I would have been a Detective (although I am pretty queasy around blood, don’t try playing me in the board game Clue – I will win) or a Chef (I love cooking and baking – my best friend and I sometimes dream about opening up our own Swedish bakery).
SIX…Ryan and I met at Colorado State University while overseeing intramural sports at the rec center.
SEVEN…For my first two years of college, I was a photography major in the art department, shooting film photography. I switched to Journalism in my junior year when I realized my passion was more for photojournalism than it was for my photos to be hanging in art galleries.
EIGHT…I’m a total foodie. Ryan and I are obsessed with sushi (the cooked kind) and curry. My favorite sushi place in Colorado Springs is Fujiyama – their rolls are half-price for lunch during the week and also for dinner on Mondays! We have a list on Ryan’s phone with star ratings for each roll we’ve tried (haha, we don’t mess around). My favorite Thai place is Thai Mint (get the panang curry). My favorite Indian place is Little Nepal (try the lunch buffet first to find out which dishes you like best).
NINE…I’ve always been super passionate about social justice issues. I started a student organization in college to help raise awareness for human trafficking and provide support to the local safe houses.
TEN…We LOVE the outdoors. We live in Colorado, so it would be a bit of a crime not to. We love hiking and just recently started mountain biking. I’m good at fishing. Not even sure why, I don’t have a great cast or some special secret. Maybe it’s because my maiden name was Fisher – it’s just in my blood?
