Denver Day Trip
As soon as I heard that Shake Shack came to Denver, I knew I needed to make a day trip there STAT. I first tried Shake Shack in California two years ago and then had it again in NYC and D.C. last year. I’m hooked on their Smokeshack burger. It’s cheesy and smoky, and the potato roll bun is soft and buttery. Ok, you get the point, so try it!
I took my younger sis, Hanna, with me – who has an equal amount of love for food, and it’s kind of the love language in our relationship.
It was so easy to fill up a day in Denver. You guys – Denver has so much to offer. Many of us are used to hanging around 16th Street Mall, but there is culture, food (gosh, why am I so obsessed with food?!), and beauty to be found all around! I love the urban renewal projects happening in cities everywhere – taking old buildings with loads of character and renovating them into beautiful markets and shops. I’m sold!
I heard about Denver Central Market, and it was at the top of my list to visit. If you’ve ever been to the Chelsea Market in NYC, you know why these places are so fun! This was a mini version, but I was obsessed with the architecture, and the shops were the cutest – a butcher, a seafood market, a bakery, a chocolatier, and the most fantastic ice cream parlor.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Josh & John’s, but one thing Colorado Springs is missing is a serious ice cream shop – one with new, exciting, and inventive flavors. High Point Creamery at Denver Central Market had about 30 crazy unique flavors, and I had NO idea how even to begin narrowing it down! I ended up with a scoop of Whiskey Pistachio and Earl Grey Shortbread. YUUUM. Also, their cones were incredible. My sister had the Earl Grey Shortbread and Blueberry Lemon (below).
Then we headed over to The Source, which is a similar concept – an old building that has been renovated. But in all honesty (no offense), it didn’t even remotely have the energy or intrigue that we found at Denver Central Market. Finally, before our drive back, we wanted to grab some drinks from a local coffee shop, so we ended up at Stowaway Kitchen. The interior design of this place was flawless – bright and white, with lots of wood and plants. The best part was that all these places were within a few blocks of each other, in a part of Denver I had never explored before. It’s always worth doing a little research and trying some new things! That’s what traveling (even nearby) is all about.
